Think about how your life has changed since you got your first auto policy. Have you gotten married? Started a family? Purchased a home? It might be time to reevaluate your personal situation to make sure your coverage options are correct. Below are some coverage's and definitions of what those terms mean that you see on your policy.
This type of coverage provides protection for bodily injuries you are legally obligated to pay because of injuries you cause to others in a covered accident. Some things you might be liable for are costs associated with their medical treatment, lost wages and pain and suffering.
This type of coverage provides protection for damages you are obligated to pay because of the damage you caused to the property of others in a covered accident. So your insurance is protecting more than just your car, it is protecting your assets.
This type of coverage protects you and your family if you are injured in a covered accident caused by a negligent uninsured driver. You may purchase stacked or non-stacked UM coverage. Stacked combines the limits of each auto you own, and adds them together. With non-stacked, the limits stand alone. For example, if you have 100/300 non-stacked UM, and you were injured by a non or underinsured driver, your policy would pay out up to 100k per person or $300k for everyone in the vehicle. If you had stacked, and owned 3-cars … the policy would pay out 3x$100k per person ($300k) or 3x$300k for everyone in vehicle ($900k). We typically recommend non-stacked coverage to our customers, to the limits you’d like to pay out. This way if you add/remove vehicles, your coverage does not change.
Also commonly referred to as PIP coverage or No-Fault coverage, this type of coverage provides protection for reasonable and necessary medical expenses you or your family incur as a result of a covered accident. PIP also might include additional coverages such as: medical or rehab expenses, loss of wages, death compensation and funeral expenses.
This type of coverage provides payment for the reasonable and necessary medical treatments you or your family incur as a result of a coverage accident.
This covers damage to your auto caused by a covered accident with another car, or covered collision with almost anything (ex: tree).
This covers damages to your automobile caused not by collision, that might include damages caused by hail, theft, vandalism, fire, falling objects, explosions and earthquakes.
This optional coverage covers reimbursements for the costs associated with renting a car when your vehicle is being repaired or serviced due to a covered accident.
This optional coverage reimburses you up to a certain point for your necessary towing charges should your car become disabled.
